We approach design solutions in a holistic and multi-disciplinary way. This approach fuels innovation thus creating value through design. As the name of IDE suggests,
IDE is integration of design and engineering processes implemented,
- improve usability of product and its value.
- to reduce development cycle time.
|
| |
| The generic principles of our implemented approach are as follows |
| |
| |
We strive to understand users and their stated and unstated requirements/ needs/wants |
| |
|
| |
Formalize strategic direction which the product development should take |
| |
|
| |
Integrate business strategy with user research, product development and process investments |
| |
|
| |
Form and implement multidisciplinary product development teams along with clients to facilitate early involvement and understanding thus allowing refinement in design |
| |
|
| |
Implement DFX techniques to design products and manufacturing process simultaneously |
| |
|
| |
Involve suppliers early so that they can bring their profound experience and refinement in the design |
| |
|
| |
Integrate CAD, CAE and CAM tools to improve effectiveness and reduce design cycle time |
| |
|
| |
Simulate product performance and manufacturing processes electronically to reduce costly design/build/test iterations |
| |
|
|
| Process |
| Our creative yet structured process draws on our experience in developing products, design research and multi-disciplinary approach. Design reviews and gate reviews forms core of our design process. Our designers and engineers use a powerful combination of tools and processes to design and develop products. |
| |
|
| |
| 'Design review' |
| During each phase of the design process, review is conducted involving the product team and selected experts, consultants and managers. We take a hard critical look at the current design to determine how to make the design better from the user, process, manufacturing, cost point of view. Review guidelines are made and maintained in a dynamic form so as to learn and apply them to every design. |
| |
| 'Gate review' |
Between each of the phases is a client’s assessment event, where the project is evaluated against specific criteria to determine if the project should proceed or reworked.
This gives us a framework for managing our projects and sets up the timing for the gates to provide structure to projects. It is therefore necessary to define points in the project timeline where the clients team engages with our project team to assess risk against both internal and external criteria and make a decision to:
a) proceed for further phases
b) request additional work in the
current phase
c) place the project on hold
d) cancel the project. |
| |
| We follow six phases of product development process |
